Installation
Download and install the Gryt desktop client on Windows, macOS, or Linux
The Gryt desktop client is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Beta desktop builds
Beta installers are attached to prereleases on the
GitHub Releases page. Their
versions use the form 1.2.3-beta.N. Install the asset for your platform from
the prerelease you want to test.
Beta builds may not behave correctly with stable servers. Use a matching beta client when testing a beta server, and keep the stable installer available if you need to switch back.
Windows
Download
Two Windows builds are published:

Install
- Run the
.exeinstaller - If Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info then Run anyway. This happens because the app isn't yet signed with an EV code signing certificate.
- Follow the installer prompts
- Gryt will launch automatically after installation
The app installs to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Programs\gryt-chat\ and auto-updates when new versions are released.
Uninstall
Go to Settings → Apps → Gryt Chat → Uninstall, or run the uninstaller from the install directory.
macOS
Download
Two files are published, both Apple Silicon:

Get either from the releases page.
Install
Open the .dmg and drag Gryt Chat.app into Applications. With the
.zip, extract it first and drag the app across yourself.
The app is code-signed and notarized, so it opens normally. There's no right-click-Open step, and if macOS does complain that it can't be checked for malicious software, that's worth reporting rather than working around.
Uninstall
Drag Gryt Chat.app from Applications to the Trash.
Linux
Snap Store (recommended)
Install from the Snap Store:
sudo snap install gryt-chatAuto-updates are handled by snapd.
Arch Linux (AUR)
Install gryt-chat-bin with your preferred AUR helper:
yay -S gryt-chat-bin.deb package (Debian / Ubuntu)
Download Gryt-Chat-x.x.x-linux-amd64.deb from the releases page.
sudo dpkg -i Gryt-Chat-*-linux-amd64.debLaunch from your application menu or run gryt-chat from the terminal.
AppImage (all distros)
Download Gryt-Chat-x.x.x-linux-x86_64.AppImage from the releases page.

mv Gryt-Chat-*-linux-x86_64.AppImage ~/Applications/
chmod +x ~/Applications/Gryt-Chat-*.AppImage
~/Applications/Gryt-Chat-*.AppImageRun the AppImage from a permanent location like ~/Applications/. Running it from ~/Downloads/ or /tmp/ will break the gryt:// protocol handler needed for login, since the registered path won't persist between launches.
AppImages are self-contained and run on most distributions without installation. To integrate with your desktop environment (application menu, file associations), use AppImageLauncher or create a .desktop file manually.
Uninstall

- Open the Gryt desktop app
- Click Add Server
- Enter the server address (e.g.
gryt.example.comor192.168.1.100:5000) - Sign in with your Gryt account
Servers on your local network are discovered automatically via mDNS and will appear in the server list without manual entry.
The first user to join a brand-new server becomes the owner/admin. After that, the server is invite-only. Ask the server owner for an invite link, or if you're on the same LAN and the owner has enabled LAN open join, you can join without an invite.
Web client
If you don't want to install anything, you can use the hosted web client at app.gryt.chat. Global push-to-talk, LAN server discovery and auto-updates are desktop-only.
